CHAOS THEORY Hits Theaters

If you didn't already know, The Damnwells have five songs in Ryan Reynolds new Warner Brothers film CHAOS THEORY. While on the set, Reynolds gave a mix CD to director Marcos Siega that included Alex Dezen's acoustic demo for "Say." Reynolds had downloaded the song from The Damnwells' myspace page and included it on the CD. Siega liked the song so much he included it and FOUR other Damnwells' songs (including "Golden Days") on the soundtrack.

Visit the CHAOS THEORY site to see the trailer now.

Zoom In Review

We got a really great review from Zoom In. Megan Gilbert states..."Suchorsky, explores the concepts of artistry, musicianship, intra-band communication, songwriting, fame, dreams, and success. The "American Dream"-like rise and fall of a Little Band That Could provides an excellent tension that pushes Golden Days out of the dustbin of live music documentaries and into the realm of art."

INK19 Review

Special thanks to Andrew Ellis over at INK19 for this great review.

The tale of a young rock band that gets mercilessly screwed over by their record company is not a new story, but it's certainly one that's been brought vividly to life in director/editor Chris Suchorsky’s compelling documentary Golden Days...

FAILURE On IFC This Month

A few years ago I directed a 30-minute comedy documentary entitled FAILURE. It chronicled my failed attempt at making a feature-length film after graduating from college. The film toured the film festival circuit throughout 2003 and 2004, won a few awards and was acquired by IFC in 2005 while we were filming GOLDEN DAYS. FilmThreat called the film a "spectaculat acheivement."

You can catch FAILURE playing on IFC throughout December and January. It's part of the IFC Short Film Showcase. Go to www.ifctv.com for your local listings.

Screening Times For the New York Area:

January 2 - 8:10 AM
January 3 - 6:15 AM
January 7 - 5:45 AM
January 10 - 5:30 AM
January 12 - 1:10 PM
January 13 - 6:45 AM
January 14 - 11:05 PM
January 20 - 10:45 AM

Some of these screening times are a bit early. If you have a Tivo, now's the time to put it to good use. You can also buy the DVD at:

Congrats to Waterfront

The Waterfront Film Festival was chosen as one of the Top 5 Film Festivals by Screen Actor's Guild Magazine. Other festivals in this category include Sundance, Cannes, SXSW and CineVegas. This is an amazing honor and Waterfront deserves ever bit of praise. They are one of the most organized and entertaining festivals out today.

GOLDEN DAYS made its Mid-West Premiere at this year's Waterfront Film Festival and we had a blast. The Damnwells headlined the opening night event and played to a crowd of over 3000 people. I can't begin to describe how much fun we had that festival. The best way to describe it is by the pictures on the previous NEWS page.

Sheffield Doc/Fest Review

GOLDEN DAYS recently made its International Premiere at the 2007 Sheffield Doc/Fest. Nick Fraser, of the BBC, called the event the "the best documentary festival in Europe." So I guess it's safe to say it's a pretty good place to make your International Premiere at. Anyway, we had a blast, saw a lot of great films and made some good friends.

Below are a couple of films I would recommend checking out.

OPERATION FILMMAKER - Dir. Nina Davenport
EGYPT, WE ARE WATCHING YOU - Dir. Sherief Elkatsha & Leila Menjou
DOUBLETIME - Dir. Stephanie Johnes

I also had the priviledge of hanging with Gav, lead guitarist of the Ghosts who are on Atlantic Records in the UK. Make sure to check out their music. Their single "Ghosts" is amazing.

FilmThreat Gives GOLDEN DAYS 4 Stars

Great review from Doug Brunell of FilmThreat. See Below...

Chris Suchorsky's last documentary was "Failure," which chronicled his attempt to make a movie. It was a fascinating and insightful film that gathered quite a bit of good praise. His new documentary, "Golden Days," the tale of a band getting picked up by a major label, might be seen by some to be along the same lines. It is anything but.

The Damnwells, a band I have some knowledge of through doing music reviews, is your basic indie rock band trying to make a living doing what millions of folks wish they could do. When Epic signs the band, life changes ... but not much, as that old adage about your wish being your curse comes into play. Epic, acting like the major label it is, ends up dropping the band because it doesn't feel it will sell enough "units," and that puts the future of The Damnwells in jeopardy...

Great Review From the EDGE

David Lamble of the EDGE writes...

Chris Suchorsky breaks VH1’s formula for rock-band sagas in his warts-and-all portrait of The Damnwells.

I like that...

In Love With His Subject?

Nice review from KQED in San Francisco who covered the San Francisco DocFest. I don't know about that love comment though...

Golden Days follows an up-and-coming rock band, the Damnwells, into the studio to make their major-label debut. An astute, well-managed foursome, they nonetheless have little choice but to cede control of a chunk of their lives to the corporate masters, with unfortunate results. Front man Alex Dezen is a talented, articulate fellow with sufficient charisma to sustain a one-hour film; director Chris Suchorsky falls in love with his subject, alas, and holds us captive for 95 minutes.

Nick Drake and Damnwells' Docs at the San Francisco DocFest

Here's a review from the San Francisco Bay Guardian saying the film is a "technically slick engaging tale." I do think the reviewer was bummed that there wasn't any drugs or sex in the film though...

GOLDEN DAYS in Boston

We just got the call a day ago. GOLDEN DAYS has been invited to screen at the 23rd Annual Boston Film Festival. Previous festivals have included screenings of Jesus Camp, Fog Of War and The US vs. John Lennon. How can you be disappointed with a lineup like that?

We have a little over 2 weeks to get ready for the festival so things are going to be hectic. I've been waiting for the perfect Boston premiere and now we have it. The festival takes place September 14th - 21st.
